Habitat Connectivity & Wildlife-Vehicle Collisions

The working group Habitat connectivity and Wildlife-vehicle collisions focuses on

  • the effects of landscape fragmentation,
  • the development and implementation of concepts for habitat connectivity,
  • the functionality and effectiveness of wildlife corridors and (re-)connecting measures,
  • the establishment of a standardized monitoring for wildlife-vehicle collisions in Baden-Württemberg
  • analysis of contributing factors to wildlife-vehicle collisions,
  • mitigation measures, e.g. fencing, Animal Detection Systems and wildlife warning reflectors, as well as
  • strategies for the long-term reduction of wildlife-vehicle collisions.

On behalf of the state, the department is also responsible for providing expertise in implementing the General Wildlife Corridor Plan (GWP) as part of the state-wide biotope network plan.
