Soil and climate protection

The “Soil and Climate Protection” area of work focuses on surveys of soil aeration, damage caused by vehicles and its remediation, and studies of greenhouse gas fluxes and carbon sequestration. Soil physical transfer variables and state variables are provided for the parametrisation of models in the “Forest and Water” and “Nutrition and Material Balance of Forests” areas of work, as well as for climate impact research at the FVA. For this purpose, the department continues to develop and standardise laboratory and field methods, especially in the field of soil physics and soil gas measurement.
