Forest protection

The detection, management and prevention of forest diseases and damage are the focus of the work in the department of Forest Protection. Forest diseases can be triggered by damaging factors of a biological nature, e.g. insects and fungi, or abiotic nature, e.g. storms and drought, which are often connected in a complex interdependence. At the same time, many of these damaging factors, like the trees themselves, are subject to the dynamic influence of an increasingly changing climate. In addition, the risk from invasive, non-native pests is also increasing. Routine monitoring, advisory services and knowledge transfer as well as practice-oriented research ensure that the growing challenges associated with this can be met in the future.
