Wildlife monitoring & genetics
The main focus of our wildlife monitoring work is on the development of monitoring methods, currently using the pine marten as an example, and the monitoring of the strictly protected wildcat (Felis silvestris) using genetic methods. The Wildlife Genetics unit also deals with issues concerning the population genetics of capercaillie, red deer and wildcats in anthropogenically influenced habitats.
The Wildlife Monitoring & Genetics area of work also coordinates Baden Württemberg’s state wildlife report, which is published every 3 years.
