Nutrition and substance balance of forests
The focus of our work on the “Nutrition and Substance Balance of Forests” is the continuous monitoring of soil fertility and the assessment of trends and deficits in the forest nutrient supply. In addition to aspects of acidification, questions relating to the carbon and nitrogen cycles are increasingly subjects of investigation. Nutrient balances are drawn up for different forestry management and silvicultural strategies, and based on these, practical recommendations are made. The department is drawing up the planning basis for the implementation of the medium-term programme for regeneration-oriented soil conservation liming, and otherwise providing support to the state forestry administration in the implementation of the programme.
